Jaylin Davis outrighted to Triple-A Worcester, Yu Chang activated
The Red Sox had designated outfielder Jaylin Davis for assignment back on Monday. Davis was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for infielder You Chang.
Davis has split his time between Boston and the WooSox. The 28-year-old outfielder hit .333 in the bigs while also striking out 40.7% of the time.
Boston claimed Chang off waivers from the Rays and he was activated on Wednesday. The Red Sox are the fourth organization that Chang has been a member of this season. He has spent time with the Guardians, Pirates and Rays.
In 40 games this season, Chang has hit .216 with four home runs, 14 RBIs, .324 slugging percentage and .605 OPS.
Chang will provide the Red Sox depth at all four infield positions. While playing with the Rays, Chang played 26 of his 36 games at second base. With Trevor Story banged up again this time with left heel pain.
The 27-year-old Chang comes to the Red Sox with no minor-league options remaining. If Boston wants to move him to Triple-A Worcester, they will need to expose him to waivers. The Taitung native is currently under team control through 2025.
