James Paxton leaves with injury: Reese McGuire, Triston Casas show off power for Red Sox in 9-4 win over Twins
The Red Sox faced the Twins on Friday for the second time this spring. The regulars in the lineup for the Red Sox jumped all over Twins starter Sonny Gray in the first inning. Paired with an inning for of errors, the Red Sox put up three runs in the first.
The Red Sox regulars were able to keep hitting and held off the Twins 8-4. This win would keep the Red Sox as the only undefeated team left in the Grapefruit League.
The biggest story of the game would have to be Red Sox starter James Paxton leaving early due to an injury. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of worry in this, but it was worth looking into and being cautious with a guy who has not pitched in a game since 2021.
Reese McGuire joined in on the grand slam train for the Red Sox in the past two days. McGuire will be featured a bit more over the next couple of weeks of spring, as Connor Wong is dealing with a hamstring issue and Jorge Alfaro is leaving for the WBC.
Triston Casas continued his hot spring with a home run himself. It’s the second of the Spring for Casas and this was a good sign off of a lefty.
John Schreiber struggled in his spring debut, struggling with control and issuing a couple walks and hitting a batter. Lack of control was something we are not used to seeing out of Schreiber, as last year he was a rock out of the bullpen.
Brandon Walter threw two scoreless innings and gave up one hit. He also struck out three and continues to look solid this spring. Chris Murphy had four strikeouts as well in his two innings he threw today. Both AAA starters are continuing to prove that the Red Sox have plenty of depth down on the farm if needed.
A few other notible regulars were in the linuep today as Tapia went 0-3, Verdugo went 1-2, Turner went 1-3 with an RBI, Duvall went 0-2, and Bobby Dalbec continues to tear up the Grapefruit League and went 2-3 with an RBI.
