Over the last few weeks, the Bruins have gotten an extended look at some of the talent waiting in Providence. That list includes prospects such as Oskar Steen and Jakub Lauko. While they have both performed, Lauko has started to carve out a role on a historically good team.
In 21 games this season, Lauko has recorded six points, including four assists. He has shown a flair for the dramatics with one game-winning goal and has been a sparkplug whenever he is on the ice. That has been an encouraging sign for the Bruins, especially down the stretch, as they have tried to rest their veterans for the postseason when possible.
Additionally, the former third-round pick has not been afraid of sacrificing his body. In 187 minutes of ice time, Lauko has landed 38 hits and blocked five shots. His impressive play has not gone unnoticed by Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery.
Earlier this week, on The Morning Roast, Montgomery praised his play and gave some insight on what Lauko’s role will be for the rest of the season.
“There’s no question that Jakub Lauko has done a fantastic job, “said Montgomery.” He’s going to be with us almost undoubtedly the rest of the way. Because he’s earned it.”
Montgomery is one of many that have been impressed by Lauko, who has shown that he belongs in the NHL. He has not been afraid of putting the puck on net and dropped the gloves a couple of times. The Czech native has also added seven takeaways to his resume while shooting the puck 23.5 percent of the time.
In a season that has been a never-ending highlight reel for the Bruins, Lauko has been one of the many bright spots as he has shown why he has a promising future in Boston.
