On Saturday afternoon, Jake Peavy returned to the mound. Peavy did not return to Major League Baseball but for the Savannah Bananas.
The Savannah Bananas are known for entertaining fans beyond just the game played on the field. Saturday’s game continued to carry that philosophy for the Bananas who had Peavy take the mound.
The former Red Sox right-hander took the mound with the 2012 Gold Glove that he won with the Chicago White Sox. This is the second time that Peavy has pitched for the Bananas. He last took the bump for them back in 2021. Peavy brought his two World Series rings to the game and let fans wear them.
The former big leaguer won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2013 and the San Francisco Giants in 2014.
This is the second former Red Sox hurler to pitch for the Bananas this season. Last month Bill “Spaceman” Lee tried out for the club and earned a spot on the team’s roster after retiring three-out-of-the-four batters he faced.
