Jake Faria outrighted to Triple-A Worcester, John Schreiber inching closer to return
The Red Sox announced that right-handed pitcher Jake Faria has been outrighted to Triple-A Worcester.
Boston recalled Saturday night after they designated righty Tayler Scott for assignment. Faria met the Sox in Chicago for the series finale against the Cubs.
The veteran right-hander allowed four walks and five earned runs over two innings pitched on Sunday afternoon.
On Monday afternoon, the club designated him for assignment to active lefty Richard Bleier off the injured list.
This was the second time this season the Sox outrighted Faria to the WooSox. Faria owns a 6.47 ERA for Triple-A Worcester serving as a starter and a bulk innings reliever this season.
The Sox will have additional roster moves to make over the next week with infielder Pablo Reyes wrapping up his rehab assignment. Reyes was placed on the IL with an abdominal strain in late June.
Boston will also need to activate righty John Schreiber off the IL. The righty is coming back from a right trees major strain he suffered back in the middle of May. Schreiber pitched on Wednesday night for the Portland Sea Dogs and the expectation is that he will pitch on Thursday night.
Schreiber could be activated as early as next week in time for the Braves series at Fenway Park.
