Jake DeBrusk providing Bruins offense with a spark
Following a career year, the 2023-2024 campaign has been full of ups and downs for Jake DeBrusk. While the former first-round pick has not met expectations, he has started to show encouraging signs with the playoffs quickly approaching.
In his last five games, the 27-year-old has recorded seven points and come through in clutch. During that stretch, he has added three goals to his resume, increasing his season total to 17. Since DeBrusk has regained his scoring touch, the Bruins offense has been hard to stop.
His biggest goal in that stretch came against the Montreal Canadiens on March 14. Against their arch-rivals, the Bruins didn’t play their best game, but DeBrusk made sure they didn’t leave any points on the board with his third game-winning goal of the season.
“Tonight was not necessarily our best game as a team but we found a way...I'm hoping [Marchy's] passing,” DeBrusk told the media following the Bruins win. “ At that point, you're just preparing for the puck to come and think about what to do after that...very nice pass by him."
Although it is unlikely that DeBrusk will match his points total from last year, he is only three goals short of 20. If he reaches that total, it would mark the third straight season that the Edmonton native scored at least 20 goals. That is no easy accomplishment and shows why he is important to the Bruins secondary scoring.
As the Bruins look to make a deep playoff run, they will need DeBrusk to continue his recent play. Goals will be at a premium in the postseason, and DeBrusk is one player the Bruins will be counting on. During his recent hot streak, the 2015 draftee provided a reminder of the player he can be.
