Jake DeBrusk is making the most of his opportunities
Through the first month of the 2022-2023 campaign, the Bruins are finding a new way to win every night. While David Pastrnak has led the way, Jake DeBrusk has shown that a career year may be in store. The former first-round pick has played like someone with something to prove, as the Bruins have been the best team in hockey.
The Edmonton native has started his sixth NHL season with three goals and five assists in nine games. He has been aggressive in the offensive zone and is second on the team in shots with 36. Although the Bruins have already dealt with injuries to critical pieces, DeBrusk is providing a spark offensively.
As the Bruins have posted a 9-1-0 record, DeBrusk has terrorized opponents. Last Friday, he had perhaps one of the best plays of his career. With the Bruins leading Columbus 2-0, the 2015 draftee blocked a shot and then took the puck the other way to make it a 3-0 game. His effort and determination continued to shine.
Although DeBrusk has been a human highlight reel, his play reflects the Bruins confidence as a whole.

"Everyone is buying in. That’s the biggest thing. Obviously getting production throughout the lineup. I think it was an early start for all of us and feeling fairly good about their game," DeBrusk told reporters.
As the Bruins look to build on their success, DeBrusk will be an important piece. He has at least one point in three straight games and already has two points on the power play. Last season he only had four points on the man advantage in 77 games.
For Boston, the play of their talented winger has been a welcoming sign. In their latest win, he did make a few mistakes but was able to overcome them. He came through with an assist on Brad Marchand's goal in the second period that sparked a Bruins offense that was having a quiet night. It was the Bruins' first of four unanswered goals in a comeback win over Pittsburgh.
If DeBrusk can continue to make an impact offensively, then the 2022-2023 season may be one he never forgets.
