Jack Jones on Aaron Rodgers pick-six: ‘Personally, I feel it’s disrespectful to throw an out route on me’
NBC Sports reporter Peter King took exception to Jones' comments following the game
Patriots rookie cornerback Jack Jones intercepted Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Sunday. His first career theft was a 40-yard pick-six late in the second quarter. The touchdown gave the Patriots a 10-7 lead at the half.
Jones, who was a fourth-round pick from Arizona State, started in place of Jalen Mills who was out with a hamstring injury.
Following the game, Jones sounded off like a veteran at the podium talking about his interception.
“Personally,” Jones said, “I feel it’s disrespectful to throw an out route on me.”
Of course, leave it to an old-time sports reporter to pooh-pooh all over Jones’ comments.
NBC Sports reporter Peter King did his best version of an old man waving his fist in the air in his weekly Monday morning recap column, Football Morning in America.
“Hey kid: They threw out routes on Deion Sanders! (Not many, but some.) How did the 121st pick in the draft get so big-headed to think one of the best quarterbacks ever was insulting him by throwing the kind of route that’s thrown 162 times a week in the NFL? Man, that was weird,” wrote King.
Jones playing with a chip on his shoulder and speaking out is refreshing for a Patriots player. Typically players in New England never have a soundbite or a quote that someone in the media can criticize.
