It’s time to start the conversation for Nick Pivetta being an American League All-Star
Nick Pivetta has been the most consistent pitcher for the Red Sox and has been their de facto ace this season. After a rough start to begin the season, Pivetta has been dominant over his last 10 starts.
The 29-year-old righty as only allowed 14 runs in 68 innings pitching to a 1.85 ERA. During that span, Pivetta had pitched six innings in nine of those 10 starts for the Sox.
Let’s not forget the two-hit, complete game against the Astros back in May. Pivetta has been dialed in since his rough start of the season where he he pitched to a 10.03 ERA (13 ER in 11 2/3 innings) in his first three starts.
Pivetta has been cruising along and should be in the conversation on being a member of the 2022 American League All-Star team.
Pivetta is 8-5 with a 3.25 ERA, 86 strikeouts over 88 2/3 in 15 starts.

From an ERA perspective, the Rays Shane McClanahan, Rangers Martin Pérez, Blue Jays Alex Manoah, Astros Justin Verlander and Yankees Nestor Cortes are all better than Pivetta.
Pivetta statistically is second in wins in the AL with 8, 15th in ERA, tied with five others for the most starts with 15, fourth in innings pitched, 13th in WHIP with 1.11 and opponents are only hitting .212 which ranks him 10th.
Pivetta from a statistical perspective matches up with other pitchers in the American League. If Pivetta can continue to be dominant on the mound leading to the All-Star game in Los Angeles he could pitch himself into the conversation of starting the game.
First, Pivetta needs to make the team and based off the last 10 starts, he is well on his way to do that. In the meantime, Pivetta needs to focus on putting the Red Sox in a position to win ballgames as they ascend in the standings.
