Injured WooSox outfielder Bradley Zimmer making progress
The WooSox have been without outfielder Bradley Zimmer since June 20 after he injured his right ankle.
The team has diagnosed him with a right ankle strain.
Zimmer has started to some baseball activities this week such as running drills. He has not yet returned to outfield drills or taken live batting practice.
“Zimm hasn’t done much just because they’re (trainers) are working on range of motion and swelling in his foot,” said WooSox skipper Chad Tracy. “He’s getting better but we got to get to 100% with that range, otherwise we’re putting the hammy and other things at risk.”
The 30-year-old is hoping to return to full baseball activities after the WooSox All-Star break.
Once healthy, Zimmer is unsure where he’ll fit in the WooSox outfield. He was playing center field prior to top prospect Ceddanne Rafaela’s promotion.
Zimmer signed with the WooSox after he was released by the Dodgers a month ago. While in Worcester, he’s played 19 games posting a .250 batting average with three homers, nine RBI and an .816 OPS.
The former first round pick is a veteran of six big league seasons, playing for the Cleveland Guardians organization for five seasons, the Blue Jays and Phillies. He’s a career .213 hitter with 21 homers, 91 RBI, 42 stolen bases and a .631 OPS.
