Hunter Renfroe returns to Fenway Park, homers for the Brewers in 9-4 win over the Red Sox
The Red Sox have now lost 13 of 16 games
Former Red Sox outfielder Hunter Renfroe belted a two-run homer over the Green Monster in the Brewers 9-4 on Saturday afternoon from Fenway Park.
Renfroe’s home run was his 18th of the season. It came in the fifth inning off Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta.
“I guess a little rest does a lot of people good for sure,” Renfroe said following the game. “I think we’re swinging the bat well and seeing the ball all right.”
The Red Sox have now dropped 13 of their last 16 games. This includes the last two games against the Brewers.
Renfroe spent one season with the Red Sox, which was last year. He hit .259 with 135 hits, 33 doubles, 31 homers, 96 RBIs and had a .816 OPS. The power hitting outfielder was traded in December 1st in exchange for outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and prospects David Hamilton and Alex Binelas.
The Red Sox ate all of Bradley’s $11 million salary to land the two prospects from the BrewCrew.
Since trading Renfroe, the Red Sox front office failed to replace him with an adequate right fielder. Instead the club has platooned Bradley with Franchy Cordero (24 games) and infielder now turned outfielder Christian Arroyo (17 games).
Both Cordero and Arroyo have yet to play a complete full season in the big leagues.
