Greg Allen steals two bases in the top of the first inning, collects two doubles, three hits total
Greg Allen took advantage of the bigger bases during the top of the first inning. The Sox leadoff man dropped a bloop single into right field, inside the foul line resulting in a single. Once he was on the bases, he let his legs do some work.
Allen stole both second and third base in the inning.
In this second at-bat, Allen continued a trend that many of the Red Sox hitters have been doing this spring - hitting the ball the other way.
He hit the ball into left field for a double in the top of the third.
Allen added another double-off Marlins lefty Dax Fulton in the top of the fifth inning. The switch-hitting outfielder went 3-for-3, with two doubles and a single in the game.
Boston signed the outfielder back in January to a minor league deal. If Allen makes the major league roster, he will earn $1.4 million this season.
Allen spent the majority of last season with the Pirates, he slashed .186/.260/.721 with four doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, 17 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 10 walks, and 42 strikeouts over 46 games. He was designated for assignment in late September and then elected free agency in October.
The speedy outfielder is a former sixth-round draft pick of the Guardians. He played four seasons with Cleveland, appearing in a total of 220 games with a slash line of 239/.295/.344 with eight homers, 57 RBIs, 76 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases.
