Greenville Drive’s Bryan Gonzalez with his fourth career multi-homer game during Saturday night's loss
The Greenville Drive honored the Greenville Black Spinners on Saturday night at Fluor Field. The Black Spinners were the first team in the area made up of all Black players.
Unfortunately, The Drive dropped their second game in a row in a 10-5 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Despite the loss, the Drive’s Bryan Gonzalez was the primary offense, hitting two homers in the game and driving in four RBIs.
Gonzalez drove in the Drive’s first runs of the game in the fifth inning, following a head-off walk by Allan Castro. After the six-pitch at-bat, the 20-year-old outfielder would steal second base and then advance to third on a throwing error by Hot Rods catcher Kamren James. With Castro in scoring position and the Drive within a run, Gonzalez crushed a line drive homer over the center field wall off Yoniel Curet.
Two innings later, Gonzalez would strike again. Following a lead off single to left field off the bat of Juan Chacon, Gonzalez hammered the first pitch of his at-bat off T.J. Fondtain, smoking another two-run homer, this time over the right center field wall.
The slugging first baseman finished the night 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBI’s, two runs scored, and one strikeout. For Gonzalez, this was his fourth career multi-homer game. His last came on May 16, 2023, against Winston-Salem Dash. He went 4-for-4 in that game with 5 RBIs and 10 total bases.
The other multi-HR games came on 7/17/2021, where he drove in 5 RBIs, and 6/1/2019.
Gonzalez offers plus raw power at the plate and is considered to be a “bat-first, platoon corner outfielder” by SoxProspects.
The Red Sox acquired Gonzalez as an international free agent in July 2018, signing him for $500,000. He is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this December and can become a minor league free agent in the winter of 2025. Gonzalez is not considered a top prospect and is not ranked within the top 60 prospects on the SoxProspects website.
