If you are traveling on interstate to go attend a Greenville Drive game you may want see if you see a team bus nearby because it seems as if the Drive have ran out of gas. After putting their foot down on the gas pedal earlier in the season with a 7-3 record, everything was on the up-and-up. How quickly that can change.
Tuesday nights 10-6 loss to Hickory marks the sixth consecutive loss for the club. Each of their last three losses they have scored six runs, and four in two games and a run in another game.
Greenville scored a run in the fifth ining and then hung a five-spot in the seventh to tie the game at six. Nicholas Northcut hit two homers in the game, both of which were solo jacks. It was his fifth and sixth home run of the season. Joe Davis also hit a two-run shot in the seventh inning, it was his third of the year. The scoring for the Drive would continue as they stalled out after a RBI single by Matthew Lugo.
Starting on the bump for Greenville was Brian Van Belle and he worked 5.2 innings giving up 10 hits, six runs (all earned), two home runs and struck out four. Out of relief for the Drive Jordan DiValerio and Devon Roedahl.
DiValerio worked 1.1 innings only allowing one hit and struck out four. Roedahl, who was tagged with the loss, worked one inning allowing two hits, four runs (all earned), and walked a batter.
Pitching has been an issue for Greenville as during this losing streak they have allowed over 50 runs combined. During this current skid, Greenville has only had two leads, both of which were against the Winson-Salem Dash. On April 21, the Drive were leading 1-0 in the first inning and lost, 4-1. On April 24, the Drive were leading 2-0 in the second inning and would wind up losing 10-6.
Greenville plays their second game of the six-game series tonight against Hickory with first pitch scheduled at 7:00 P.M.
