Garrett Crochet has been everything the Red Sox needed and more
During the offseason, the Red Sox found their ace in Garrett Crochet when they acquired him from the Chicago White Sox. While the Red Sox had to give up a lot of talent, they knew Crochet would be worth it. Through the first half of the 2025 campaign, he has been everything the Red Sox needed and more.
In his first 20 starts in a Red Sox uniform, the former first-round pick has posted a 2.23 ERA and struck out 160 batters. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball, holding opponents to a .210 batting average in 129.1 innings.Â

As Crochet has overpowered batters with his elite arsenal, he has also been an innings eater. Since the Calendar flipped to June, the 26-year-old has pitched at least six innings in every start. That includes his best start of the season, which came on Saturday at Fenway.
Against the Rays, Crochet was in elite form, recording a complete game shutout. The Red Sox starter struck out nine batters and lowered his ERA this month to 1.29. With the Red Sox playing their best baseball in years, Crochet has been better than ever while leading a rotation full of promise.
With the first half of the 2025 campaign in the books, Crochet’s is in the top five of most categories. He currently owns the third-best ERA in the majors and ranks third in wins with ten. The University of Tennessee product also leads the league in strikeouts with no signs of slowing down.
Although Crochet’s success comes as no surprise, it is a reassuring sign for the Red Sox. They were expecting him to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, and at the All-Star Break, he is a Cy-Young candidate. As the Red Sox look to make a postseason push, they will need Crochet to build on his success. Since Opening Day, he has shown that his time in Boston will be filled with unforgettable moments.
