Garrett Crochet addresses contract extension rumors
Earlier this offseason, the Boston Red Sox made a significant addition to their rotation when they acquired Garrett Crochet from the White Sox. The talented left-hander was one of the top options on the trade market and has a bright future. With only two years left on his deal, Crochet did not hide his desire this weekend to be in Boston for the long term.
At Fenway Fest on Saturday, Crochet was asked about recent rumors about contract extension talks. His answer was an encouraging sign for the organization.
“Staying in Boston long-term is something that has a lot of merit in my mind,” Crochet told reporters at “Fenway Fest.” “It’s something that I think would be awesome. In the meantime, focused on the spring and getting ready for the upcoming season. Trying to stay focused one day at a time.”
The former first-round pick joins Boston after a stellar 2024 campaign. In 32 starts last season, Crochet posted a 3.58 ERA while striking out a career-high 209 batters. For the first time in his career, the Ocean Springs, Mississippi native was named an AL All-Star despite being on an innings limit.
While Crochet’s contract has been a hot topic, his focus is on building on his success and making the most out of his first year in a Red Sox uniform.
“There have been conversations with my agent just getting a feel for one another,” Crochet told reporters on Saturday. “As of this moment, that’s what I’m doing is worrying about on-field stuff and I’m going to continue to do that throughout the season. I’m happy to just stay in my own lane. That’s why players have agents.”
After giving up four prospects to get the former White Sox ace, extending Crochet should be a priority for the Red Sox who finally have the elite starter they have been searching for.
