Former Dodgers’ outfielder Yasiel Puig is in an agreement with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Koren Baseball Organization. Puig is expected to sign a one-year, $1 million deal, per Jeeho Yoo.
The former Dodgers, Reds and Indians outfielder will earn the maximum amount allowed under the KBO rules. The veteran outfielder turned 31 years old on Tuesday hasn’t played an inning in Major League Baseball since 2019.
In his last year in the majors back in 2019, the slugging right fielder ended up hitting .267 last season with 24 home runs, 148 hits and 84 RBI between both Cleveland and Cincinnati.
Puig was traded from Cleveland to the Reds during the 2019 season. In his final game with the Reds, Puig was involved in a bench clearing brawl between his old team and the Pirates. Puig would get himself involved in the donnybrook on the field between the two teams.
The Red Sox were connected to Puig during the 2020 season. There was speculation that J.D. Martinez could opt-out of his contract. The Cuban outfielder could have helped fill a void left by Martinez had he opted-out.
Puig was once represented by Rachel Luba of Luba Sports. Luba represents Trevor Bauer of the Dodgers. Puig decided to part ways from Luba Sports back in November.
“I appreciate Rachel’s efforts on my behalf over the past year,” said Puig. “She is a wonderful person and an extremely talented and knowledgeable agent. I wish her nothing but the best.”
Puig has expressed interest in returning to Major League Baseball. Now that Puig is heading over to the KBO, he can rebuild his value and try MLB free agency in 2022.
