Franchy Cordero signs with the Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles signed former Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Franchy Cordero on Friday. The 28-year-old inked a one-year split contract that will pay him $1.35 million in the majors and $450K in the minors.
Cordero was one of the five players Boston acquired in the Andrew Benintendi trade prior to the 2021 season. Over the course of his career, Cordero has spent six seasons with the Padres, Royals and Sox.

In 227 big league games, Cordero has slashed .221/.290/.386/.697 with 144 hits, 35 doubles, three triples, 21 homers, 74 RBIs, 13 stolen bases with a 84 wRC+.
Cordero spent time split between both the minors and The Red Sox during his time with the organization. With Triple-A Worcester, he slashed .325/.397/.590 over 31 games in 2022 while playing 84 games with Boston, he hit .219/.300/.397.
Now that his Red Sox career has come to an end, Cordero will forever be linked to Benintendi. While other pieces came over in the trade, fans link Cordero as a major piece in the trade.
Boston right now has Triston Casas and Eric Hosmer on the roster to play first base. Bobby Dalbec will provide depth at the position providing his is not traded this winter.
