Former Red Sox World Series champ helps secure new baseball coach at Mizzou
The 2018 Red Sox team were a juggernaut from start to finish. They did, however, have a huge hole at second base. Dustin Pedroia was only able to play in 3 games in 2018 after trying to return from his major knee surgery. That had left second base to be split between Brock Holt and Eduardo Nunez for most of the season.
Dave Dombrowski knew that the duo was best suited for bench roles and went out and acquired veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler at the trade deadline.
Kinsler would take over as the primary second baseman down the stretch and would play in 11 games in the postseason for the Red Sox in route to their fourth World Series of the century.
Five years later, Kinsler is now the Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Texas Rangers. On top of that, his alma mater needed his services finding a new head coach for the baseball team.
The Arizona native played for three different schools during his college career, but ended up at the University of Missouri where he was drafted in the 17th round by the Texas Rangers.
It is being reported that Kinsler interviewed every single candidate that interviewed for the Mizzou head coaching job. Kerrick Jackson, who was an assistant coach at Mizzou from 2011-2015, ended up being named the head coach. Kinsler noted he was impressed by Jackson and sees him as the man who can bring Mizzou baseball up from the bottom of the league.
The Red Sox currently have two former Mizzou players in their organization in MLB starter Tanner Houck and 2022 draft pick Nathan Landry.
