Former Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes takes a shot Chaim Bloom in his latest comments?
Former Red Sox closer Matt Barnes will not be in attendance to watch his new team play his old teammates.
The 32-year-old who spent his entire career with the Red Sox was designated for assignment back in January. He was later traded to Miami in exchange for left-hander Richard Bleier.
On Monday, Barnes pitched one inning against the Astros, he struck out one batter and gave up one earned run. Following the game, the Marlins gave Barnes the option to go home or stay for the game. He elected to take them up on their offer to stay home.
“I’m not going to stick around for the game,” Barnes told reporters, according to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe. “I’ll be buddy-buddy when we play them in June.”
Barnes also shed some light on how he feels about the organization as well as chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom.
“I’m not mad and I don’t have any animosity toward the Red Sox organization because that organization represents so much more than who’s currently running it. The people at the top were so great to me,” Barnes said.
Barnes mentioned being grateful to ownership and longtime baseball operations team members Brian O’Halloran, Raquel Ferreira, and Eddie Romero.
Following the trade, Barnes told Chris Cotillo of MassLive that his ending in Boston was “bittersweet.”
"It's going to be weird. It's going to be different... different is not a bad thing,” said Barnes.
The new Marlins reliever was very complementary about being in Miami and about his new teammates.
“It’s been great here so far. The guys are awesome; the staff is awesome,” Barnes said to The Boston Globe. “We have some really good talent on this team. I’ve seen that in a few weeks. As weird as it’s been, the adjustment has been pretty good. But it’s hard when you go from knowing everybody to knowing nobody.”
