Former Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. poured cold water on a report that he’s “expected to retire” after 11 big league seasons.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported on Nov. 23 that Bradley was calling it a career and walking away from the game. Roughly a week after that report, Bradley posted on X, to clarify whether or not he’s considering retirement.
“So let’s get this cleaned up a little. I personally have NOT officially retired,” he posted on the social media platform with a picture of himself. “I may retire, but that has not been decided.”
Bradley spent eight seasons with the Red Sox (2013-2020, 2022), he owns a career .236 batting average, .719 OPS, 101 homers, 181 doubles, 24 triples and 62 stolen bases in 964 games.
His best season came in 2016 where he batted .267 with 26 homers, doubles, seven triples while driving in 87 RBIs in 144 games with the Red Sox. He was also part of the 2018 World Series championship team that defeated the Dodgers in five games.
Following the 2020 season, Bradley left the Red Sox in free agency and signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Brewers. He spent one season in the Cream City before being traded back to Boston along with prospects David Hamilton and Alex Binelas. The Red Sox sent outfielder Hunter Renfroe back to the Brewers in the trade.
Boston designated Bradley for assignment after struggling in his return season with the Sox. He hit .210 with three homers before the club moved on from the veteran outfielder.
Bradley played 11 seasons total playing for the Red Sox, Brewers, Royals and Blue Jays.
