Former Red Sox lefty Martín Pérez signs with the Texas Rangers
Martín Pérez will not be back with the Red Sox for 2022. The left-handed pitcher has agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with the Rangers, per Fansided’s Robert Murray.
Pérez will head back to Texas where he spent the first six years of his career from 2012 to 2018.
Pérez spent the last two seasons with Boston. The left-handed hurler compiled a 10-13 record and 4.65 ERA in 48 appearances.
He finished the 2021 season with a 7-8 record, 4.74 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and .296 batting average against in 36 outings while making 22 starts. As a reliever in 2021, he posted a 4.50 ERA in 14 relief outings.
Pérez became a free agent after the Red Sox declined his $6 million option. As a result, he earned a $500,000 buyout.
The likelihood Pérez would return to Boston diminished once the club signed Michael Wacha, Rich Hill and James Paxton. It remains to be seen if the Red Sox will add more starting pitching options now that free agency has begun.
