Former Red Sox left-hander and current Padres reliever, Drew Pomeranz has been sidelined for almost a full calendar year. Pomeranz has missed time due to undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon.
The 6-foot-5 lefty has recently begun to throw to hitters and his manager Bob Melvin stated he could begin a rehab assignment soon.
According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, Pomeranz is close but the lefty is telling him, āIām not there yet.ā

Pomeranz underwent surgery in August of 2021.
During his second stint with the Padres, Pomeranz has missed 104 games due to various injuries, including 97 games during the 2022 campaign.
The left-handed hurler missed time with a shoulder strain in 2020, he suffered a shoulder impingement from May 10-June 29, 2021 and forearm inflammation July 7-17th and Aug. 11 until the end of the 2021 season.
Pomeranz spent three seasons in Boston after he was traded from the Padres during the 2016 season. Then Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski dealt top pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza for Pomeranz.
During his tenure in Boston, Pomeranz made 56 starts in 72 games posting a 22-17 record, 4.24 ERA, 1.454 WHIP in 316 1/3 innings. His best season lwith the Red Sox was in 2017, where he went 17-6 with 3.32 ERA in 32 starts.
