Former Red Sox left-hander hurler Kyle Hart has agreed to a minors pact with the Phillies on Tuesday, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
The Red Sox selected Hart in the 19th round of the 2016 amateur draft out of Indiana University Bloomington. Hart wound up signing with the club for $5,000 and made his professional debut in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League that season.
The 30-year-old Hart now joins his second organization. He primarily worked as a starter in the minors. The Cincinnati native made his major league debut in 2020. Hart appeared in four games, making three starts posting a 15.55 ERA in 11 innings of work.
The southpaw will go to the Phillies hoping a change of scenery will get him back on track. The Phillies major league roster is loaded and the club has good depth at the upper levels of their system.
Philadelphia currently have four left-handed options out of the bullpen with José Alvarado, Gregory Soto, Matt Strahm and Andrew Vasquez. Hart will look to compete during Spring Training and attempt to earn a spot with that squad.
The lefty is the latest former Red Sox player Dave Dombrowski has acquired this winter. Dombrowski has also added Noah Song who he drafted while leading the Sox front office.
