The Diamondbacks have signed utilityman Yairo Muñoz to a minor league pact, the deal includes an invite to Spring Training.
Muñoz signed a minors deal with the Phillies last offseason. He ended up appearing in 29 games for the NL champions, hitting .211/.250/.404 with three homers.
Red Sox fans should be no stranger to Muñoz, who spent parts of two seasons with the club. In 17 games, he hit .286 in 56 at-bats with 16 hits, five doubles, one homer, four RBIs and .714 OPS.
During the 2021 season while playing for Triple-A Worcester, Muñoz had a 35 game hitting streak. His hitting streak broke a 70-year-old Red Sox record.
Over the course of his historic streak, Muñoz amassed 57 hits in his last 35 games and slashed .317/.345/.446 to go along with 14 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 31 RBI, 40 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, 13 walks, and 44 strikeouts across 77 total games in his first season with the WooSox.
