Former Red Sox first base coach Andy Fox has found a new home ahead of the 2025 season. Fox will become the Pirates Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve’s new manager.
The former Sox coach was Boston’s team infield coordinator for the 2022 and 2023 seasons and was the club’s first base coach for the 2024 campaign. Boston fired Fox back in October after the Red Sox missed the postseason for a third straight season and their defense continued to look lackluster.
Fox will become the 16th manager in the Curve’s team history, replacing Robby Hammock, who left the Pirates organization after one season to join the Padres staff. Hammock is a former big league catcher and infielder who spent time with the Diamondbacks.
“I am thrilled to welcome Andy Fox and his staff to Curve, PA for the 2025 season,” said Curve general manager Nate Bowen to MiLB.com. “The Pirates hit an absolute home run with this group, and I cannot wait to see them in action this season.”
Fox spent Major League seasons with the Yankees, DBacks, Marlins, Expos, and Rangers and will begin working his first season in the Bucs’ system. The Sacramento, Calif. native is a former two-time World Series champion as a player, winning rings with the 1996 Yankees and 2003 Marlins.
Fox began his coaching career working several different roles in the Rangers, Mariners, Marlins, and Red Sox organizations. While in his role as a coordinator in Boston’s system, he oversaw the development of Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and Mookie Betts. In addition, he won two additional World Series rings as an instructor with the Red Sox in 2013 and 2018.
