Former Patriots wide receiver lands in the XFL
Former Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has landed back in football, this time in the XFL. The former Baylor product was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons in their Supplemental Draft on Sunday. Gordon was selected with 45th pick overall.
The XFL is set to play on February 18 and the talented Gordon will look to reboot his career one more time.
The ex-Browns, Patriots, Seahawks and Chiefs pass catcher was with the Titans this season. Gordon was released in October.
The days of Gordon being the All-Pro receiver are long gone, he will try and have a productive season in the XFL.
A former second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft, Gordon quickly made a name for himself with the Browns. Once he took the field in Cleveland, Gordon quickly became a productive player.
After missing two games to begin the 2013 season, Gordon finished the year with 87 receptions for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns, earning him first-team All-Pro honors.
The Texas native was slapped with another suspension prior to the 2014 campaign. That suspension was reduced to 10 games that season.
The NFL laid down the hammer the following offseason, suspending the talented receiver for the entire 2015 season. He was set to return after sitting out the first four games of the 2016 season, but he ended up stepping away from the NFL for the entire season.
Gordon was reinstated late during the 2017 campaign. After spending two years away from the game, the 6-foot-3 All-Pro finished with 335 receiving yards in five games. The Patriots went on to acquire the embattled receiver during the 2018 season for a fifth round pick.
Gordon played 17 games with the Patriots and made 60 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. The Patriots released Gordon during the 2019 season. He would later hook on with the Seahawks that year.
In addition to Gordon, two other former Patriots were drafted in the XFL Supplemental Draft. Wide Receiver Devin Ross went to the Brahams and cornerback William Likely was drafted by the Roughnecks.
