Former Patriots running back heading back to the Cowboys
It should come as no surprise to NFL fans that former New England Patriots running back Ezekiel Elliott is heading back to the Dallas Cowboys.
The deal is reportedly a one-year, $3 million deal that includes a $2 million guarantee, per Clearance Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The former Ohio State star running back played one season for the Patriots. The 2023 campaign produced career lows in carries (184), yards (642), and efficiency (3.5 yards per attempt).
Elliott’s 642 rushing yards led the Patriots, with Rhamondre Stevenson dealing with nagging injuries last year.
The need for Elliott was clear after star running back Tony Pollard left for the Titans in free agency. Dallas added Royce Freeman two weeks ago and opted to not select anyone in the NFL Draft.
The Cowboys all-time leading rusher is expected to take on a notable role within the Cowboys offensive scheme. Elliott is set to join Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Malik Davis, and Freeman as the other running backs on the depth chart.
The 28-year-old had been talking to the Cowboys since late March, and steam on the reunion came to fruition during the NFL Draft.
