Former Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is visiting the Patriots
Patriots workout another running back
Running back Ezekiel Elliott is visiting the New England Patriots today according to Jordan Schultz. This marks the second notable running back visit in just a couple weeks as Leonard Fournette came in for a workout too.
Elliott is entering his eighth year in the NFL, all of which have been with the Cowboys. He just turned 28-years-old and has made three Pro Bowls. Last season he ended up splitting the workload with Tony Pollard. “Zeke” recorded a career low in attempts and yards (231 attempts for 876 yards).
The former Ohio State Buckeye has remained unsigned throughout free agency despite his strong resume. He has rushed for over 1000 yards four times and was averaging over four yards per carry before last season. He also has the ability to be pass catching option with a career 305 receptions, with his season high being 77 in 2018.
The need for another running back is clear in New England. Behind Rhomandre Stevenson, the Patriots have second year backs Kevin Harris and Pierre Strong.
Head Coach Bill Belichick said yesterday that Harris and Strong have made a big jump coming into year two. However, both of these backs had very little playing time last season, Harris had 18 rushing attempts and Strong with 10.
Elliott would bring experience that this current backfield does not currently have. New England is also said to have interest in setting up a visit with running back Dalvin Cook, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Cook is also visiting the New York Jets.
