Former Boston Bruins defenseman Urho Vaakanainen injured during preseason game
Ducks defenseman Urho Vaakanainen was injured and stretched off the ice after crashing into the boards on Friday night.
The incident happened 9:46 into the game as Vaakanainen was attempting to crash the net.
Vaakanainen would dish the puck to teammate Derek Grant, who wound up scoring on the play. Sharks’ Artemi Kniazev attempted to defend Vaakanainen who twisted his body and crashed into the boards behind the net. It appeared the defenseman hit his head in the collision into the boards.

The Ducks tweeted out that the 23-year-old had full movement within his extremities and was alert and fully conscious.
The Bruins traded Vaakanainen at the 2022 NHL trade deadline in a deal to acquire defenseman Hampus Lindholm. Boston had originally selected the native of Finland as the 18th overall pick of the 2017 draft.
