Former Astros general manager the latest to withdraw from consideration for Red Sox front office role
Another day, another candidate has withdrawn from the process to potentially become the next Red Sox general manager. Former Astros general manager James Click is the latest to tell the Red Sox he is not interested in Chaim Bloom’s vacant role, per the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier.
Click reportedly spoke with the Red Sox but turned down an opportunity to pursue the role citing family reasons.
The former Astros leader was with Houston from 2020-2022 where he won a World Series title. Click also spent nearly 15 years in the Rays organization, starting as an intern and working his way up to a vice president. He is currently serving as the Blue Jays Vice President of baseball strategy.
Click joins a growing list of front office executives to decline an opportunity to interview to become the Sox’ general manager. Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes, Phillies GM Sam Fuld, Twins president of baseball ops Derek Falvey all have declined to interview.
The club has reportedly interviewed Twins general manager Thad Levine, Cubs assistant general manager Craig Breslow and Eddie Romero.
