On Wednesday night, the Boston Bruins will open their season against the Chicago Blackhawks as a new era begins in Boston. For the first time in years, the Bruins will be without franchise cornerstones Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, who retired in the offseason. As a result, prospects such as Johnny Beecher will get a chance to show that they belong at the NHL level. For Beecher, the season opener will be a dream come true.
Following an impressive career at the University of Michigan, the Bruins selected Beecher with the 30th overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft. In 81 games for the Wolverines, the New York native recorded 39 points, including 19 goals. His success caught the eyes of the Bruins and he has continued to impress during his time in the organization.
Additionally, during the preseason, Beecher recorded one goal and one assist. While those numbers don’t jump off the page, Beecher made smart decisions with the puck and impressed Jim Montgomery. As a result, his NHL debut is less than 24 hours away.
In his first stint with the Bruins, the 22-year-old is expected to center the fourth line. While Milan Lucic sets the tone physically, Beecher will be tasked with using his speed to create offense. He was up to the challenge in the preseason and quickly formed some chemistry with Lucic.
As the season progresses, Beecher will be one player for Bruins fans to watch. In 70 games with Providence over the last two seasons, Beecher has recorded 28 points. The Bruins' fourth line will be in good hands if he can provide similar production.
After years of waiting, the Bruins will finally get to see what they have in the University of Michigan product at the NHL level.
