Two days after the puck dropped on the Boston Bruins season the Providence Bruins season began on Friday night.
Fabian Lysell gave the P-Bruins crowd something to cheer about after scoring his first career AHL goal. Lysell’s goal came on his very first shot and it gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead.
The 19-year-old’s goal came just 1:27 after Georgii Merkulov scored his second career AHL goal and first of the 2022-23 campaign. All three of the Providence goals were scored in a span of 2:04.
Lysell had a strong camp for the Bruins but ultimately was sent down to Providence. The Swedish prospect played alongside Patrice Bergeron at practice and earned high praise from the captain.
“[Lysell] is definitely a great talent. A lot of speed and a smart player. It’s good to have a chance to be with him on the ice and get to know him,” said Bergeron. “On the ice we’re just trying to talk about where to be on the ice and talk about drills to make sure he knows where he’s going.
“I know for me when I was a young guy coming in, my first scrimmage at main camp was with Glen Murray and Sergei Samsonov. I’ll never forget that. You learn from those guys that have been around and that you look up to, the guys that have the experience. That’s what we can share with them. It’s always great to have that young energy on your wing. It’s something that can be very beneficial for young guys coming up.”
Lysell will look to impress this season for the P-Bruins to earn his opportunity to play at the NHL level in the future.
