Eric Hosmer close to return?
Hosmer has been out of action since Aug. 20th and on the IL since Aug. 23rd
Red Sox first baseman Eric Hosmer has been on the injured list since Aug. 23rd with back inflammation. It was initially expected that the left-handed hitting Hosmer would miss the rest of the regular season.
“Hopefully we can get some swings to start the progression and hopefully come back at some point and help contribute,” Hosmer said Sunday.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed they expect Hosmer back before the end of the year. Cora told reporters that Hosmer could return by the end of the week, potentially in time for the Blue Jays series.
In his 12 games with the Red Sox since being acquired from the San Diego Padres at the Aug. 2 trade deadline, Hosmer has hit just .225/.311/.300 with no home runs, four RBIs and six runs scored in 45 plate appearances.
