The Red Sox called up infielder Enmanuel Valdez on Wednesday from Triple-A Worcester. The 24-year-old replaces Yu Chang on the 26-man roster, who was placed on the paternity list.
In the bottom of the third inning, Valdez stepped into the batter’s box for his first big league at-bat. Valdez found a hole in the middle infield, pats the diving Jose Miranda. He would record his first career base hit, a single off Twins pitcher Joe Ryan.

The young infielder finished his first game 2-for-4 out of the No. 9 spot for manager Alex Cora.
Prior to his start, Valdez told reporters that he finally is getting to see his dream come true.
“Finally today my dream is going to come true,” he said. “I’m going to be able to play in a major league game for the Boston Red Sox.”
Unfortunately, Valdez’s family wasn’t at Fenway Park in person to watch his major league debut. “I would have loved for my family to be here,” Valdez said. ‘Unfortunately, they weren’t able to be here. But this is something I do for them. To be able to play and provide for them. So it’s a great moment for me and my family.”
The Dominican Republic native provides his family with two great moments on Wednesday night. It’ll be a moment the young prospect and his family will cherish for the rest of their lives.
