Durbin Feltman A bright spot: Christian Arroyo, Wilyer Abreu grand slams power Red Sox offense to 15-3 win over Phillies
The Red Sox hosted the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday afternoon as Grapefruit League action roles on. The Red Sox offense was clicking on all cylinders and put up seven runs in the first three innings. Powered by two grand slams and a ton of hits, they wouldn’t turn back and held the lead the rest of the game beating the Phillies 15-3.
Starting pitcher Tanner Houck struggled to find the strike zone early and got himself into trouble both innings he pitched. He issued four walks total but escaped with zero runs earned. He did have his disgusting slider though, and punched out two with it.
Durbin Feltman entered the game in the top of the 2nd with the bases loaded due to Houck walking three batters in the inning. Feltman had to face former Red Sox favorite Kyle Schwarber, and induced a groundout to first to leave the bases loaded with no runs in.
Christian Arroyo had himself a day at the plate and went 2-3 with two home runs and five RBIs. If he can remain healthy, Arroyo should be a lock with the starting second base job in 2023.
There were plenty of notable names in the lineup today. Kike Hernandez went 0-2 with two walks. Rafael Devers went 2-4 with two RBIs with a double that was smoked to dead center field. Justin Turner went 2-3, Adam Duvall went 0-2, Rob Refsnyder went 0-2, Jorge Alfaro went 1-2, and Jarren Duran went 1-1 with two RBIs.
A Red Sox prospect acquired in the Christian Vazquez trade wanted in on the grand slam action, as Wilyer Abreu smoked one out of the park in the bottom of the 7th inning.
