The Los Angeles Dodgers will sign Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the deal is for 12-years, $325 million, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Dodgers will also pay Yamamoto’s former team a $50.6 million posting fee.
Yamamoto reportedly met with at least the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, Giants, Blue Jays and the Phillies. The Dodgers were viewed as one of the true favorites since the right-hander became available.
Yamamoto will join Shohei Ohtani in Los Angeles and the two will be part of the Dodgers 2025 rotation. Ohtani will not pitch this year while he recovers from elbow surgery.
The 25 year-old went 16-6 last season with a 1.21 ERA with 169 strikeouts and 28 walks. He possesses elite command with an arsenal that includes a high caliber curveball and a filthy splitter. He will lead the Dodgers rotation that already added Tyler Glasnow in a trade with the Rays and Walker Buehler will slot in as the No.3 starter.
The Dodgers have now spent $1,161,500,000 on Yamamoto, Ohtani and Glasnow this offseason.
The free agent and trade market has remained frozen waiting on Ohtani and Yamamoto to come off the board. Now that this has happened, the next focus will be on top starters Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery.
