Dmitry Orlov is proving to be a perfect fit in Boston
The Boston Bruins were one of the league's busiest teams at the NHL trade deadline. They improved their depth by adding veteran pieces such as Tyler Bertuzzi, Garnett Hathaway, and Dmitry Orlov. While each move has paid off, Orlov has had the most significant impact and has been a points machine while wearing the black and gold.
Through the first ten games of his Bruins tenure, Orlov has recorded 12 points. In that span, he has nine assists and three multi-point games. As Orlov has joined arguably the best team in the NHL so far this season, he has made the transition seem easy and had no trouble adapting to a new system.
While Orlov has been a human highlight reel, he has joined unique company. The former second-round pick has the fourth most assists by a player in their first ten games with the Bruins, according to Stats Centre. Only Adam Oates, Fred Stanfield, and Joe Juneau had more. Orlov has been a critical contributor regardless of the situation, etching his way into the Bruins record books.
Additionally, the veteran defenseman has already seen some time on the power play and recorded three points. In 43 games with the Capitals, he had four. Although Boston has struggled on the man advantage, the 31-year-old has made the most of his opportunities. That will be key in the playoffs as the Bruins look to carry their regular season dominance into the postseason.
While Orlov’s offense has been the center of attention, he has not been afraid of sacrificing his body. The Novokuznetsk native has landed 20 hits and blocked ten shots during his time with the Bruins. His style of play has fit in perfectly with his new team.
If the Bruins do end their championship drought in the coming months, Orlov will be a big reason why. He has provided a boost offensively while averaging more than a point per game. For the Bruins, it is a trade that has worked out perfectly.
