NFL Free Agency: Derek Carr lands in the Big Easy, signs with the Saints
The Saints sign Derek Carr to a four-year deal
Derek Carr has a brand new home, the former Raiders quarterback will sign with the Saints. New Orleans and Carr are in agreement on a four-year deal,$150M with $100M in total guarantees, per Ian Rapport and Mike Garafolo.
Carr will receive $60 fully guaranteed at signing and another $10 million once he starts Year 3 of the deal, ESPN said. He will earn $60 million in the first two years of the deal.
The Saints who have a top tier defense, weapons such as Taysom Hill, Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, they will be looking to take over the NFC South.
New Orleans will welcome the four time Pro-Bowl quarterback, someone who was playing at MVP level in 2016, and the Raiders franchise passing yard leader during his time with the organization.
"I had the opportunity to work with Derek at the start of his professional football career," head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday in a statement. "In addition to his talent, I admired his approach to the game, work ethic and commitment to get better every day in what were the formative stages of his career. From afar and when we played him as an opponent, I saw Derek's development into one of the most productive quarterbacks in the National Football League. Derek is an outstanding addition to the New Orleans Saints and I can't wait to get working with him and the rest of our team this offseason."
Carr is coming off one of his worse seasons yet before getting benched in week 16 for Jarrett Stidham he had completed just over a 60% of his passes. Carr struggled this past season protecting the ball, he had 14 interceptions this past season tying his career high set in 2021.
