For the Boston Bruins, the first nine games of the season have been filled with fireworks. As the black and gold have gotten off to an 8-1-0 start, they have been led by David Pastrnak. The 26-year-old has been on fire to start the season and is showing why he is deserving of a contract extension.
The 2014 draftee has seven goals and ten assists in nine games this year. Boston has been hard to stop, as his points have come in bunches. So far this season, he has multiple points in six of his last seven games. During that span, he has terrorized opponents on the power play.
Pastrnak has seven points on the man advantage through the season's first three weeks. Five have come in his last four games, including a season-high three against Detroit on Thursday. Regardless of the opponent or situation, the former 25th overall pick is finding a way to put points on the board at ease.
Additionally, the Czech native is not holding back in the offensive zone. He has already landed 50 shots on net, which leads the team by a wide margin. Jake DeBrusk is second with 36. While Pastrnak's hot start has not surprised anyone, it has been noticed around the league.
Entering play on Saturday, Pastrnak leads the NHL in points with 17. He is also second in goals and assists. On Saturday night, the impact he can make was on full display as he attempted 11 shots and landed a team-high four hits. With 88 at his best, the Bruins have shown they are not an easy matchup.
While Pastrnak has been scoring a machine, he is making an impact in other ways. The talented winger has landed 11 hits this season and blocked three shots. He has also been effective in the faceoff circle.
While the season is far from over, Pastrnak’s value rises with every game. He is a unique talent and would not be an easy piece for the Bruins to replace. Regardless of what the future holds, he has provided a reminder over the last two weeks of just how good he is.
