Big Papi David Ortiz is an icon in Boston. Since Ortiz has retired from Boston, he covers the MLB postseason for Fox Sports and recently has joined Jared Carrabis on creating their own podcast. Ortiz and Carrabis’ podcast is called “Call Him Papi,” which is exclusive to Barstool Sports.
This past Sunday, Ortiz sat down with Barstool Sports personality Caleb Pressley. Ortiz joined Pressley for “Sundae Conversation” where the two talked baseball.
Pressley asked Ortiz what he liked about baseball, Ortiz replied, “I would say hitting home runs.”
Ortiz hit a lot of those over his career. Big Papi hit 541 dingers over the course of his career, hitting 483 with the Red Sox.
Pressley would ask Ortiz if there was anything he would do for luck when he played baseball.
Ortiz would laugh off the question but talk about Pedro Martinez. Big Papi said about Martinez, “We used to call Pedro anaconda right? Well, the guy live large man.”
“Whenever things wasn’t going well, he used to paddle people on the back with his weapon. Pedro was special,” said Ortiz followed by a laugh.
Ortiz would also talk about his beef with rapper Jay-Z. The rapper would sue Ortiz over the 40/40 club name.
“[Jay-Z and Perez] have accused Ortiz of trading on the fame, value and goodwill of their name through his club Forty/Forty and its website, www.fortyforty.net, which they say has caused their business ‘marketplace confusion and damage,” reads the lawsuit. Jay-Z’s suit goes on to argue that the shared name isn’t accidental, as Ortiz “has been a patron [at the 40/40 Club] on several occasions long before he opened his infringing Forty/Forty Club.”
“The thing is I opened up a club in the Dominican, but I wasn’t focusing on the name on the club,” said Ortiz.
The interview was something different for Ortiz and provided laughs. Check out Ortiz and Carrabis’ podcast “Call Him Papi” on iTunes or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
