Before the start of the 2022-2023 campaign, the Boston Bruins welcomed back a familiar face in David Krejci. Last season the former second-round pick spent the year playing in his native Czech Republic. So far this season, Krejci has continued to be a model of consistency in his 16th season with the Bruins.
As the Bruins have been a winning machine, Krejci is averaging nearly a point per game. In 32 games, he has 28 points, including 18 assists. He is currently tied for fourth on the Bruins in points and tied for third in assists. Over the last few months, the former 63rd overall pick has shown how important he is to the franchise.
Additionally, he has been productive regardless of the situation. He has ten points on the man advantage this season which is only six short of matching his total from the 2020-2021 campaign. With Krejci back in the lineup, Boston’s second line has not been an easy matchup for opponents.
While the thirty-six-year-old has provided a boost offensively, he has affected the game at both ends of the ice. In 554 minutes of ice time, Krejci has blocked 19 shots and landed 22 hits. In faceoffs, he has a 50.6 winning percentage which is on par with his career average. When he is in the lineup, the Bruins are a better team.
Although the regular season is far from over, Krejci has picked up right where he left off two years ago and continued to cement his legacy in Bruins history. If the 2022-2023 campaign were to end today, Krejci would finish his career with 758 points which would be the ninth most in franchise history. Wayne Cashman holds the eighth spot with 793 points.
Regardless of how many points Krejci ends up with when the clock on the regular season hits its final hour, it is no coincidence that the Bruins dominance this season has come with their longtime center back in the lineup. On a team with championship aspirations, Krejci is an important piece.
