David Hamilton has been a game changer for WooSox: 'When he gets on base, it's even more fun'
David Hamilton has been the hottest hitter for Worcester so far this season. His speed has come as advertised, but the bat has shown some pop to pair with it.
“He had a hot start last year and has been swinging the bat the same this year.” WooSox manager Chad Tracy said about Hamilton’s hot start. “He is hanging in there left-on-left.”
While his splits were better against lefties last season, it is a good sign he is hitting well this year in AAA.
“Even when he mishits the ball and chops it, he is going to beat that out for a single.” Tracy said. “He can even beat you with a bunt as well if he wanted to.”
Hamilton stole 70 bases last season while in Portland, so the speed comes as advertised. We have seen it many times this year with him beating out infield singles and flying around the bases when the guys behind him put the ball in play. Tracy seems to really enjoy watching Hamilton play as well.
“He is very fun to watch because he can beat you in a lot of ways and it is fun to watch a guy who realizes that.” Tracy added. “When he gets on base, it’s even more fun. He went from first to third on an infield single Tuesday. He is very locked in right now.”
Does Hamilton get the green light every time he gets on base?
“He gets unlimited freedom when he is on base and has been very successful with his decision making.” Tracy noted.
Hamilton is now hitting .419 and is carrying a 1.277 OPS. He has started all seven games he has appeared in at shortstop this year and continues to be the top middle infield depth option in the Red Sox system.
