Could the Red Sox target Kumar Rocker in MLB Draft?
Kumar Rocker will once again be available to draft this year
Kumar Rocker, the former Vanderbilt ace who did not sign with the New York Mets after they chose him in the first round last year, will once again be available for selection in this years MLB Draft.
Most mock drafts have the fierce righty going later in the draft, in rounds two or three. Some mocks however have Rocker rocking his way out of the first round. The Rockies have been linked, along with the Braves, Royals and Orioles in some mocks.
But, the Red Sox need pitching depth for the long-term and could make a push to get Rocker.
One of his [Rocker] most memorable moments playing with Vanderbilt came as a freshman when he threw 19 strikeouts on his way to a no-hitter over the Duke Blue Devils. It was the first no-hitter in a Super Regional in NCAA Tournament.
Rocker went 28-10 with a 2.89 ERA, and 321 strikeouts 68 walks in 236.2 innings while at Vanderbilt.
While not reaching an agreement with the Mets last year, Rocker has signed with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the independent Frontier League, according to a club announcement.
Rocker will use this opportunity to show scouts that he is still a first round draft pick.
Rocker does round out on most draft mocks as the top 30-50 draft eligible prospects for this upcoming draft.
