Clippers acquire disgruntled Sixers guard in massive trade
James Harden finally gets his trade demand fulfilled, heads to Los Angeles in huge swap
James Harden has finally gotten his wish, he’s no longer a member of the Sixers organization.
Philadelphia traded Harden, P.J. Tucker and Filip Petrusev to the Clippers in exchange for Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a 2029 pick swap and an additional first-round pick that will be routed from a third team, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Sixers are also waving Danny Green to create roster space for the trade. The Clippers are working with a third team and those details are yet to be made available.
The Harden trade brings back expiring contracts to the Sixers, which will free up roughly $50 to $65 million next offseason.
According to reports, the Clippers and Sixers began advanced trade talks for Harden over the weekend. The Sixers wanted at least two first round picks back for Harden, with the veteran off the books, they can pursue another high-impact player in free agency to pair with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Harden is reportedly “ecstatic” to be landing in Hollywood. He could be in attendance for Tuesday night’s game against the Magic.
Harden had asked the Sixers for a trade back in June, citing a poor relationship with general manager Daryl Morey, calling him “a liar.”
The new Clippers guard will join a strong roster that features Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Russell Westbrook.
