Chris Sale: 'We're here to make some noise. Say what you want, but I like where we're at'
Sale threw a bullpen session on Wednesday from Fenway South
Red Sox lefty Chris Sale threw a bullpen session on Wednesday down in Fort Myers. Following the session, he spoke with the media and told them he plans on being manager Alex Cora’s Opening Day starter on April 30th, against the Orioles and other topics.
The 33-year-old southpaw does believe the Red Sox pitching staff will make some noise this season. Sale was asked by reporters if the starting rotation can stay healthy, can they compete?
"No question. No question," Sale told reporters Wednesday in Fort Myers, Fla. "I was with Paxton a lot last year obviously rehabbing, coming back, and he works hard. And when he's at his best, watch out. Kluber's got a trophy case for anybody. I'm not going to sit here and talk about myself, but I know what I can do too.
"Not only that, we've got a bunch of guys on that pitching staff top to bottom. Bullpen, starting staff. We're here to make some noise. Say what you want, but I like where we're at."
Sale missed the majority of last season due to a right rib stress fracture. During his second start back in July, he was struck by a line drive on his left pinky against the Yankees. To make matters worse, Sale would end up seeing his season come to an end after breaking his right wrist in a bicycle accident in early August.
Sale is expected to throw another bullpen session on Saturday from Fort Myers.
