Chris Long talks about Patriots performance on Sunday
Former DL chimes in on the Patriots Loss
The New England Patriots endured a hard fought 25-20 loss Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. However it was not all bad. The Patriots defense showed up and kept New England in the game. The offense recovered from a rough start and had a chance to win at the end. This performance caught the eye of former defensive lineman Chris Long
Long has a unique perspective as he played for the Patriots and the Eagles in the back half of his 11-year career. This week he shared his observations on the Rich Eisen show. Long touched on both sides of the ball and discussed his optimism for New England.
“From the Patriots side you have to come away a little encouraged. Mac Jones threw some really nice tight window balls over the middle of the field. The touchdowns were nice. He’s got a real offensive coordinator, I think the stuff that Bill (O’Brien) ran at Alabama, you can draw some things with that. I think Mac is going to be a lot more comfortable.”
Jones did finish the day completing 35 of 54 passes. His completions and attempts were both career highs. O’Brien has instilled trust in Mac to run the offense more and show his abilities. Overall, Jones finished by going 35-54 for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns with one interception.
Long continued to praise the Patriots with their defense. “I thought there’s something there with this defense. They kept the points down, they took the middle of the field away. They heated Jalen up in key situations and honestly you’ve got 10 points that come off the board off the Ezekiel Elliot fumble and the pick-six. “I’m pretty excited for them, not high-key excited, like low-key excited.”
The description from Long is accurate. The Patriots played well given the opponent, but as always after a week of football there are areas that every team can improve in. The Patriots next play Sunday Night football at home against Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins.
