Chipotle continues to fuel Red Sox players
Connor Wong, Rafael Devers and Brock Holt over the years have raved about Chipotle
Over the years, Red Sox players have pledged their allegiance to the casual fast food chain Chipotle. Most recently, catcher Connor Wong is the latest player who loves to devour salads or bowls in his quest to bulk up the last two seasons.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey, Wong added healthy weight since the 2021 by eating Chipotle and adding in a protein shake to increase his calorie intake.
Wong loves getting a salad from Chipotle but like most locations, ordering a salad is dependent on whether they have the dressing available.
If the dressing is available, Wong will order brown rice, chicken, tomato, corn, guacamole, cheese, hot sauce and salad dressing. Occasionally he’ll add a chicken quesadilla with a side of queso.
If he opts for something other than a salad, the 26-year-old will order white rice, steak, queso, corn, tomato, salsa and extra cheese.
Wong hasn’t been the only player to play for Boston who has openly acknowledged their love for Chipotle.
During the 2018 World Series, following Mookie Betts stolen base to secure America a free taco, Brock Holt told Taco Bell he’s team Chipotle.
“I haven’t eaten Taco Bell in probably 10 years. So yeah, I’ll probably stay away from the free taco. I’ll let everyone else get it,” Holt said to Boston.com.
“I’m going to stay away from Taco Bell. You’ll end up on the toilet all night.”
Holt talked about how he likes to take his son to Chipotle. “I would have to take my son,” the utility infielder said. “He loves Chipotle. He crushes it. He’s 2 years old and eats a whole Chipotle bowl by himself. I’d give him my free Chipotle. But Taco Bell, I’m going to pretty much stay away from Taco Bell.”
Rafael Devers was motivated by Alex Cora during the 2018 season with Chipotle gift cards.
Cora enticed his then young star with Chipotle gift cards. Devers would get a $50 gift certificate for working a walk, and a $100 gift certificate if he can hit an opposite-field home run.
His Chipotle of choice was chicken, guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes.
