Chase Shugart was excellent in Saturday’s start for the WooSox
The Worcester Red Sox got four excellent innings out of starter Chase Shugart in their 9-0 win over the Buffalo Bisons.
The righty didn’t allow a run and gave up only two hits, striking out three.
WooSox manager was very complimentary of his starter following the game.
“That was enormous. We were very thin. W still are going in to tomorrow, but we only had three or four guys to work with today, and him being able to go four allowed us to stay away from (Caleb) Simpson who now is now available for us for some length tomorrow,” Tracy said. “The pitch count was in such a good place after the third, it’s like, let’s ride him as long as we can. We needed that really bad. That was a huge, huge opening job by him.”
Saturday’s start was Shugart’s first start for the WooSox. He’s appeared in 16 games with a 2-2 record, 5.53 ERA in 27 2/3 innings pitched this year.
Earlier this season, Shugart pitched the last two innings to complete the WooSox first no-hitter. The last Triple-A no-no for the Sox was Bronson Arroyo’s no-hitter with Pawtucket back in 2003.
