After an offseason full of change, Charlie Coyle entered the 2023-2024 campaign as one of the Bruins veterans’ leaders on offense. The former first-round pick has been a player the Bruins can rely on since his arrival in Boston and that has continued in his sixth season in the black and gold.
Through 11 games this season, Coyle has recorded six goals and two assists. He is tied for second on the team in assists and third in points. Only David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand have more points. After a slow start, the Weymouth native has been particularly good of late.
As the Bruins have entered the most challenging part of their schedule so far, Coyle has at least one point in four of his last five games. During that stretch, the Bruins have played teams expected to be playoff contenders, such as the Panthers, Maple Leafs, and Red Wings. His play of late has helped spark some of the Bruins young stars as the competition has gotten tougher.
While Coyle is not expected to lead the team in goals, he has recorded at least 44 points the last two seasons after only recording 16 during the 2020-2021 campaign. He is on pace to do that again with minor tweaks to his game.
During the Bruins's 9-1-1 start, the 31-year-old has been more aggressive with the puck on his stick. He is shooting the puck 13.3 percent of the time, which would be the third-highest total of his career if the season ended today. While the 2023-2024 campaign is far from over, Coyle has stayed true to his game regardless of how the roster around him has changed.
